Types of Ship Agencies
Ship Agency is a service provided to represent National Sea Transport Companies and/or Foreign Sea Transport Companies in order to manage ship interests for local and foreign companies while in Indonesia.
Ship agents are needed to provide services while at the port for shipping companies that do not yet have branches at the port.
The services offered by ship agents also cover all the needs of the shipping sector, from processing permits to ship trading. Agency ships themselves are divided into 3 types, namely as follows:
General Agent
It is a foreign shipping company that appoints a national shipping company to service its ships (foreign shipping companies), while sailing and stopping at ports in Indonesia. Requirements as a General Agent (KM 33 of 2001, Chapter V, Article 45 Paragraph (1) to (4).
- Indonesian shipping companies that own Indonesian-flagged vessels with a minimum size of 5,000 GRT, both cumulatively.
- Have proof of Agency Agreement or General Agency Agreement (Letter of Appointment)
Sub Agent
Is a shipping company appointed by the General Agent to serve the needs of ships at a port. This sub-agent actually functions as a representative or agent of the general agent.
